10 Things You Can Do To Save The World Right Now!!!
So, You want to save the world? Here are 10 things to get you started!!!
- Don't open and close the fridge too much!
A refrigerator uses almost five times more electricity than a T.V.! Every time you open the refrigerator door, up to
30% of cold air escapes.
2. Recycle your cans and bottles!
Recycling just one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep the T.V. on for 3 hours!
3. Turn off your computer monitor!
Turn it off if it is not in use for more than 20 minutes and turn off your computer if it is not in use for more than 2 hours
Consider getting a laptop. A laptop uses half the energy of a destop computer!
4. Don't throw away plastic bags into regular garbage!
Worldwide, an estimated four billion platic bags end up as litter each year. Tied end to end, that's enough to circle the
Earth 63 times. When those bags get loose, they kill hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales, cows, goats, and
other animals who accidentaly ingest them!
5. Take off your shoes when you enter the house!
Every chemical and pesticide from the street and lawn comes inside when you walk in!
6. Don't let the water run when you brush your teeth!
Did you know that more than 70% of Earth's surface is covered by water, but less than 1% of it is drinkable? Conserve!
7. Recycle at home!
Organize plastics, paper, and metals separately. Have them ready on garbage day for the recycle truck to pick up. If
no recycle truck comes to your part of town, check your city's website to see if your location can be added to the
route. If not, look for a listing of local recycling drop off spots in your city!
8. Drink tap water instead of bottled water.
In addition to the energy cost of producing, bottling, packaging, storing, and shipping bottled water, there is a
huge environmental cost as the millions of bottles are disposed with nowhere to go.
9. Totally avoid styrofoam.
It does not break down in the environment. At all. Plus it contains chemicals that can build up in the body and can
cause health issues over time and with continuous exposure (even in small amounts).
10. Take shorter showers.
Ask Mom or Dad to install a low-flow shower head, which will limit the hot water and conserve more energy.
